PURPOSE:To provide a silicon nitride powder having easy sinterability and giving a sintered silicon nitride having excellent high-temperature strength, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective silicon nitride powder is characterized by the coating with amorphous SiO2. It can be produced by adsorbing an Si-containing compound such as SiH4 to the surface of silicon nitride powder and oxidizing the compound.
