PURPOSE:To realize a method for indicating the residual amount of roll paper to the operator by a simple construction in an ink jet printer provided with the roll paper for cleaning a nozzle surface of a printing head. CONSTITUTION:While roll paper 9 is taken up at a fixed angular velocity, a printing head 1 is driven on the surface of the roll paper 9 at fixed time intervals to form a stripe pattern having intervals corresponding to the residual amount of the roll paper 9 on the surface of the roll paper 9. In this manner, the operator can estimate the residual amount of the roll paper 9 by comparing the intervals with a scale as a reference. |
