<p>A combined process is disclosed for cleaning and corrosion proofing tools made of iron or steel, soiled in particular with oil, grease and/or rust, by steeping in an aqueous acid mordant the soiled metal surface and by phosphatizing the cleaned metal surface with an aqueous phosphoric acid solution that may also contain additives for controlling the formation of the phosphate layer. The process is characterized in that at least during phosphatizing an aqueous bath solution is used, containing dissolved phosphoric acid together with an emulsified, disperse organic liquid phase on the basis of oleophilic esters, oleophilic ethers and/or oleophilic alcohols, as well as emulsion-stabilizing surface-active compounds. Preferably, the process is carried out during the mordant step as well in the presence of the oleophilic ester-, ether- and/or alcohol-based emulsified organic liquid component. The process may be carried out in a single step or in two separate mordant and phosphatizing steps.</p> |
