<p>A method treating patients to prevent the transmission of disease by infusing a platelet-containing povidone solution, at least one half of the povidone in said solution having a molecular weight of under 40 kD, that has been in contact with povidone-iodine or povidone-hydrogen peroxide, or a mixture thereof for a period sufficient to inactivate or destroy infective pathogenic microorganisms therein and therapeutic compositions comprising platelets or blood factors in povidone or albumin solution are disclosed.</p> |
