The brake system is for a long-distance ski. It has a lengthwise groove in the running surface, in which a lengthwise beam with braking structure in adjustable for height. The beam (5) is cut away (10) at each end, to engage in a mating cut-away portion of the groove (3), being supported at the rear end of the latter. There can be an insertion slot in the two of the beam to allow coupling with a height-adjustable stop.
