<p>The present invention relates to a new assay system which can be used to screen for and to quantitate infectious retroviral strains. In particular, the present invention relates to a simple and rapid colorimetric transactivation assay for the detection of HIV-1, HIV-2 and SIV using HeLa cells containing CD4 and a reporter gene, for example β-galactosidase, that is dependent on transactivation by the infecting virus for expression.</p> |
