<p>A fluid flow resistance device having a rotating shaft (6) is centered in a fluid filled sealed cylinder (2). A rotor (8) is connected to the shaft (6) and a baffle (12) is connected to the internal wall (10) of the cylinder (2). Rotation of the rotor (8) in the cylinder (2) drives fluid through bores (14) in the baffle (12). Adjustable spring loaded ball valves (16) are situated in at least two bores (14) passing through the baffle (12) so that resistance to fluid flow through the baffle (12) in opposite directions can be controlled. The simplified design of the fluid flow resistance device of the present invention utilizes less materials so as to have mininmal weight; thus the fluid resistance device is ideal for use in spacecrafts. Further, by use of the spring loaded one way valves (16), the device can be used in any orientation, and a minimum resistance to motion of a lever arm (88) connected to the fluid resistance device can be obtained.</p> |
