The igniter is for gas-generating material inflating a car-passenger air-bag. It comprises a vessel with a metering port, which can be shut off, and contains a priming charge in particle form, burning for 5-100 milliseconds when ignited. The port is so dimensioned that, after ignition, the charge is retained at least until an appreciable part of it has ignited. The charge can be mixt. of combustible metal and an oxidn. agent, typically contg. or consisting of boron-kalium-nitrate.
