Polymers (I) of (co)polymerised vinyl cpds. of formulae (1A) or (1B) contain, incorporated, a 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10 -phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (II) of formula (2): R1 is H or Me; R2 is H, 6-12C aryl, COO-(1-6C)alkyl, CN, OOC-(1-6C)alkyl, or halogen; R3, R4 are H, 1-4C alkyl, or 6-12C aryl; X is O or NR4. (II) are commercially available. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) as additives at 1-35% (all pts. wt.) to thermoplastically processable polymers, partic. polyamides, polyethers, polyether ketones, or polyblends of one or more thermoplasts and opt. impact toughness modifiers, conventional reinforcing agents, fillers, and stabilisers. (I) have improved flame resistance, melt rheology, and thermal and oxidn. stability, partic. showing less discolouration on heat-ageing.
