A method for synthesizing alkylated aromatic hydrocarbons having a saturated alkyl chain with at least four carbon atoms, wherein an aromatic hydrocarbon which is substituted by an alkyl grouping having a saturated short chain with 1-3 carbon atoms is reacted with an olefin in the presence of a catalyst which includes at least one alkali metal or alkali metal hydride impregnated onto an alumina support, and the catalyst is prepared in the reaction medium in the presence of the aromatic hydrocarbon having a short alkyl chain by mixing the anhydrous alumina with the alkali metal or alkali metal hydride, wherein the weight ratio of alkali metal or alkali metal hydride to the alumina support is between 0.6 and 1.8. The method is useful for synthesizing tert-amylbenzene by alkylating cumene with ethylene.
|
