Binding garments on flat knitting machine - by knitting loose thread to bind garment contours or locate patterns at edges

During knitting, the edges are away from each other on account of the contour pattern, but are continuously connected by a single meandering loose thread. On completion of knitting, the loose threads are drawn to bring the edges together. The front and back sections of a knitted garment pref. have contours which are apart when produced on the machine. By introducing a thermoplastic thread at the time of knitting, which is held loosely in the loops of the knit, this is drawn tight when the garment is removed from the machine. ADVANTAGE - The amt. of time consumed in binding the garments is reduced, esp. in respect of matching edges which are patterned.
