The invention relates to a toe binding (1) with a casing (2) in which is fitted a release spring (40) which bears on a tie-rod (10) passing through it which acts on a release plate (13) on the shorter lever arms (36) of two crank-levers (35) which can pivot on a bearing member (20) about vertical spindles (34) and whose longer lever arms form sole retainers (37). The bearing member (20) has a through aperture (21) for the tie-rod (10) and a front supporting surface (23) which bears at least partly on a rear transverse wall (3) of the casing (2). In order to protect such a toe binding (1) from the ingress of dirt from above and to afford the manufacturer greater freedom in selecting his material, according to the invention there is a vertical insert plate (100) adjoining the rear transverse wall (3) of the casing (2) substantially bearing upon said wall on which the bearing member (20) bears locally. It is also an essential feature of the invention that upper side parts (104) of the insert plate (100) have a first section (105) of thinner material and an adjoining second section (106) of greater wall thickness.
