<p>Apparatus for producing reflective insulating batts (10) has an elongate bed (26) along which a reflective insulation base layer (32) is drawn longitudinally by drive means (93). First supply means (40, 50) supplies a first set of strips (18) of sheet material over the base layer, while second supply means (55) supply a similar second set of strips (16). Third supply means supply a length of reflective insulation top layer (94) over the base layer such that all strips (16, 18) are located between said base and top layers (32, 94). The first supply means (40, 50) presents the strips (18) onto the base layer (32) in a laterally adjacent array. The second supply means (55) presents the strips (16) in an array in which the strips (16, 18) are laterally interleaved so that each strip of one set, known as "connector strips" (16), has one side margin in contact with the base layer (32) and its other side margin exposed for contact with the top layer (94) when the latter is supplied. Each strip of the other set, known as "partition strips" (18), has each of its side margins in contact with a respective connector strip (16).</p> |
