A code signal (DSCD) for controlling the playback of the video disk (7) is added to each video frame of a video signal in a predetermined period thereof, and the video signal, which includes the added code signal, is recorded on a video disk. The code signal (DSCD) includes a code signal which is recorded in a lead-in area of the video signal and contains information (LFN) with respect to a last video frame number of a program area of the video disk. Alternatively, the code signal (DSCD) includes a code signal which is recorded in a lead-in area of the video signal and contains information (TCN) with respect to the total number of chapters on the side of the video disk which is to be played back.
