A needle electrode system for intraoperative facial nerve monitoring by electromyographic recording includes a pair of break-apart needle electrodes (12,14) housed together in a fixed spaced-apart relationship. The needle electrodes are joined to electrical conductive wires (50,54) for detachable connection (52,56) to a differential amplifier. Since the needle electrodes are furnished as a bipolar pair with twisted leads (50,54) in a single break-away housing (18), they provide standardization, ease of placement and close bipolar recording. If separate placement of the needle electrodes is desired, the housing (18) can be broken apart at a break-away joint (26,30). <IMAGE> |
