A liner (40) for carrying liquid located in a compartment of a sea going vessel is protected from tear or puncture by a shock absorbing cushioning mat (12). The mat (12) is made up of sections interlocked by cables (21). Each cable (21) is connected to a coil spring (31) by a butt plate (42). Each coil spring (31) is then connected to a side anchor beam (15). Pivotal side plates (81) support the liner (40) and are located between the liner (40) and the mat (12). |
