The invention relates to compounds of the formula: <IMAGE> the formula: <IMAGE> or the formula: <IMAGE> in which R4 is an unsaturated, 5 or 6-membered heteromonocyclic group, R5 is hydrogen, lower alkanimidoyl or imino-protective group, R7 is ar(lower)alkyl or acyl derived from a carboxylic, carbonic, sulfonic or carbamic acid, and A is lower alkylene, or a salt thereof, useful as intermediates in the preparation of antimicrobial agents.
