PURPOSE:To provide a bright image which is free from the blurring of the image by a shade by consisting one substrate of a pair of the substrates of a glass substrate mixed with light scattering particles having the grain size of a specific value or below. CONSTITUTION:The one substrate of a pair of the substrates 1 of the reflection type liquid crystal display having a pair of the substrates 1, at least one of which are transparent, electrodes 4 provided on the substrates, a liquid crystal compsn. layer 3 crimped between the substrates 1, a polarizing means changing the transmission or reflection of light according to the molecule orientation state of the liquid crystal, and a driving means 8 driving the liquid crystal layer by applying an electric charge to the electrodes is the glass substrate mixed with the light scattering particles having the grain size mum or below. The light scattering particles 2 have a polarization maintaining characteristic and a polarizing plate is provided only on the upper glass substrate. In addition, the liquid crystal layer has prescribed refractive index anisotropy and orientation structure. Then, the transparent layer without having the light scattering particles existing on the surface is formed if the light scattering particles are kneaded into glass and are then formed to a plate shape.
