PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a modifier of a corrosion-resistant unsaturated polyester resin and polyester fiber, and solidifiable in a short time to get a sufficiently high hardness for pulverization, easily, by treating a bisphenol-type dioxyethylene ether with a specific amount of water under a specific temperature condition. CONSTITUTION:A bisphenol-type dioxyethylene ether obtained by adding about 2 moles of ethylene oxide to 1 mole of a bisphenol such as bisphenol A [2,2-bis(4- hydroxyphenyl)propane] in the presence of a catalyst, pref. an amine catalyst, is treated with 0.2-5wt%, pref. 0.5-2.0wt%, based on the ether, of water at 70- 110 deg.C, pref. 80-100 deg.C, to accelerate the solidification of the ether. The catalyst can be neutralized with an organic acid such as acetic acid, propionic acid, etc. after reaction, and is not necessarily to be removed. |
