PURPOSE:To penetrate a catalyst into an electrode base by touching a suspension in which a catalyst, binder, and water repellent agent powders are dispersed to the base evacuating a vacuum container in which the electrode base is placed. CONSTITUTION:An electrode base 1 comprising carbon fiber fabric, porous carbon plate, or metal fiber fabric is placed on a holding plate 3 of a vacuum container 2 provided with the electrode base holding plate 3 having a plurality of passing holes. A suspension of catalyst comprising powder of platinum, palladium, silver, or nickel is sprayed on the electrode base evacuating the vacuum container 2 a vacuum outlet 4 of which is connected to an aspirator. Then a suspension containing a binder and water repellent agent such as fine powder of polytetrafluoroethylene in water is sprayed on the electrode base 1. The electrode base 1 is picked up from the vacuum container 2, and heated in nitrogen gas to obtain an electrode after drying. |
