Device which can be associated with a group of input or output paths, especially in a programmable automaton, for detecting whether the paths experience a circuit opening and/or a current surge. To each path there are assigned two analog comparators (15H, 15L) connected to a logic processing circuit (16) which attaches one or other output of the comparators to a management unit (13). A configuration logic module (22) sets one or other of the comparators and their filters and associated forcing devices to the active or inactive state depending on the desired mode of operation. <IMAGE>
