发明名称 MAGNETO-OPTICAL MEMORY FOR WAVELENGTH MULTIPLEX RECORDING
摘要 PURPOSE:To allow high-density storage by laminating plural kinds of magnetic material layers having the characteristics to match the wavelengths to exhibit light absorption and magneto-optical effect, thereby forming the magneto-optical memory. CONSTITUTION:The magneto-optical memory is constituted by laminating the magnetic films 1 to 4 having the characteristic wavelengths lambda1 to lambda2 at which the light absorption and the magneto-optical effect are simultaneously generated. The respective layers 1 to 4 are irradiated with light having the respective wavelength characteristics, by which the respective layers 1 to 4 are subjected selectively to writing or reading out. The Bi-substd. rare earth garnet which is expressed by general formula R3-xBixFe5O12 and in which R is one kind among Tb, Er, Eu, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Dy, Ho, Tm, and Yb, or is a combination of the plural elements thereof is used as the magneto-optical memory medium. Iron garnet in which the Fe element is partly substd. with Ga, Al, Co or In, may be also used as the memory medium. Al, In or SiO2 is used for the rare earth garnet expressed by R3-xBixFe5-yMyO12 as the nonmagnetic insulating film between the respective magnetic films.
