The upstream and intermediate stuffing boxes have seals and flushing gas chambers. The flushing gas connection (2) is tangential to the piston rod (5) so that the flushing gas impacts the pressure side (8) of the stuffing box (6) at an angle. The tangential angle is 45 and 90 degrees.The ring gap between the gas chamber (1) and pressure side (8) has a multistart groove (4) similar to a thread way. ADVANTAGE - Angular impact of gas intensifies flushing action round the piston rod thus scouring out gas inclusion.
