The figure shows a sectional view of part of a membrane keyboard where flexible membranes (1,2), supported on a lower support plate (6) and separated by a spacer (5), carry contact pads (3,4) screen printed on to the membranes. Key button support assemblies (7) are located over, and in contact with, the top membrane via spring-operated keypads (10). The keypads bear upon acoustic pads (15) of expanding ink material printed on the top membrane (2). Printed expanding ink could be used to provide the spacer (5) between the two membranes.
