Horizontal continuous casting process and equipment - includes holding furnace, casting mould and baffle of refractory material at mould inlet

Horizontal continuous casting process and equipment, esp. for Cu base alloys, comprises: (i) holding molten metal at constant temperature in a heated holding furnace; (ii) introduction of molten metal from holding furnace to a casting mould through an inlet baffle or refractory material; and (iii) passing molten metal horizontally through a casting cavity to form cast strand. ADVANTAGE - Provides an improved continuous casting process and equipment, esp. for copper base alloys, which prevents uneven temperature distribution in the molten metal in the mould and therefore the formation of cold cracks in the cast strand.
