Cylindrical support for a flexible filter candle fabric sleeve is formed as a ring of evenly spaced parallel rods round whose exterior is wound a regular wire helin. An enclosed cap on the head of the support is matched by a bottom end cap with an axial filtrate aperture. Each cap has a female thread cut in the inner face of its cylindrical section, to be engaged by the male thread formed by the terminal turns of the helix, whose wire cross-section matches the female thread cross-section, so that cap and support can be screwed together. The wall of each cap is progressively thinned in its final section away from the threaded end, providing space for a shaped sealing sleeve of plastic material e.g. polyurethane or of soft solder.
