A method of supplying energy through the medium of methanol which comprises electrolysis of water, synthesis of methanol from recovered carbon dioxide and hydrogen obtained in the preceding step, methanol combustion for the production of energy, and recovery of carbon dioxide that has resulted from the combustion of methanol. Alternatively, the step of electrolysis of water is followed by synthesis of methanol from hydrogen obtained in the preceding step, recovered carbon dioxide, and recovered hydrogen, methanol decomposition by given energy for separation of methanol into carbon monoxide and hydrogen, carbon monoxide combustion for burning carbon monoxide to give energy and recover the resulting carbon dioxide, and recycling of the hydrogen that has resulted from the methanol decomposition to the process of methanol synthesis. |
