A detonating device suitable for simultaneous initiation of the periphery of a cylindrical explosive charge (13) comprises a detonator (17), an initiating charge (10) and a barrier plate (1), the plate having a peripheral annular slot (6) and being provided with an axi-symmetric cuspidal deflector (4) which confronts the detonator so as to direct a detonation wave initiated by the detonator radially outwards through the initiating charge to the annular slot and hence through the plate to the explosive charge. The plate (1) is formed of polycarbonate and is associated with a shock absorbing member 11 composed of copper powder, PTFE powder, and polyisopropylene.
