A printing plate blank is formed by disposing successively a base layer, a photosensitive layer susceptible of peeling development, and a peeling support layer (or a laminate of a photosensitive silver salt layer including a photosensitive silver halide, an organic silver salt and a reducing agent). A printing plate is prepared by forming a polymerized part in the photosensitive layer through imagewise exposure and peeling apart the peeling support layer (or the laminate) together with the yet-unpolymerized port of the photosensitive layer to leave the polymerized part of the photosensitive layer on the base layer. The resultant printing plate is provided with an improved printing durability primarily by inclusion of a polymerizable compound in the base layer effective for firmly fastening the polymerized part to the base layer and additionally by subjecting the thus-prepared printing plate to additional exposure, heating and/or pressure application. <IMAGE>
