The present invention relates to a colour filter comprising a light filtering substance. According to the invention the colour filter is characterised in that the light filtering substance comprises the result of the reaction of a binder polymer with a reactive dye. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention the colour filter is characterised in that the light filtering substance also comprises an organic pigment. The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing a colour filter as above comprising forming a light filtering substance on a substrate. According to the invention the method of manufacturing is characterised by the steps of depositing a solution of a binder polymer and a reactive dye on the substrate and heating the deposited solution so that the binder reacts with and bonds with the reactive dye thereby forming the light filtering substance. <IMAGE>
