PURPOSE:To record a high-quality, half-tone image even on plain printing paper by discharging the heat-meltable ink which is solid at room temp. and becomes liquid in a head upon heating in a manner to control the ink dot diameter, while increasing the printing speed. CONSTITUTION:The ink jet recorder is provided with a head 2 having an ink chamber 3 filled with an electrically conductive heat-meltable ink 1 and an ink discharge orifice 4 formed in communication with the ink chamber 3 for each picture element density, an ink heating means 5 adapted to heat the heat- meltable ink 1 in the ink chamber 3 of the head 2 to such an extent as to melt a part of the ink near at least the orifice 4 and a control electrode 7 near each orifice 4. The recorder is further provided with an electrostatic force control means 6 which directs a variable electrostatic force S toward a recording material 8 provided facing toward each orifice 4 according to multiple gradient image information with the control voltage changeable in response to the multiple gradient image information applied to each control electrode 7. |
