PURPOSE: To provide a small anti-lock hydraulic brake system wherein no reaction occurs in a master cylinder or it occurs little during control action. CONSTITUTION: A bypass line 12 communicating with a pump 8 is provided with a pressure control valve 13, and an open pressure of the pressure control valve is determined by a master cylinder pressure, so that a pressure which cannot open a discharge valve 18 is formed in a line. The bypass line communicates with a low-pressure accumulator 9 of a slight capacity. Thus, the low-pressure accumulator is not allowed to suck a pressure medium any more, no further drop in pressure within wheel brakes 3 and 4 is made possible. The bypass line is provided with a shutt-off valve 14 actuated by the low- pressure accumulator, and as soon as the low-pressure accumulator reaches a specified filling level, the cut-off valve cuts the bypass line, and a pressure is discharged and increases in the line, for the pressure medium to be allowed to flow a master cylinder 1 through a discharge valve.
