PURPOSE:To provide an input device for three-dimensional information having the capability of quickly and accurately inputting data particularly about the shape of an object, using image information obtained through a two-dimensional image pickup element and a lens. CONSTITUTION:A reference signal including a high-pass signal is irradiated to an object 12, using a reference image generation circuit 10, and a signal reflected from the object 12 is picked up, while the focus position of a lens l is being displaced slightly. A best focus position detecting circuit 5 detects the high-pass component of the image signal, thereby detecting the correct focus position of a pickup image. A distance to the object 12 is measured, on the basis of the focusing condition of the lens 1 corresponding to an image giving a correct focal point. This distance information is converted to obtain data on the shape of the object 12. Even when a signal from the object 12 does not include a high-pass signal, the correct or incorrect focus of the object 12 can be accurately detected, using the high-pass signal contained in the reference signal, thereby ensuring the correct measurement of the shape of the object 12. |
