PURPOSE:To obtain a fuel oil improved in cetane number at a low cost without any danger to handling by using a method for passing oxygen through light oil, heavy oil or a mixed base material oil to be their constituent components in the presence or absence of an oxidation catalyst while heating the oils. CONSTITUTION:A light oil, heavy oil or a mixed base material oil to be their constituent components is filled in a test tube 1 and an oxygen blowing tube 3 having a coiled oxidation catalyst 2 wound around the tube or without any coiled oxidation catalyst is introduced into the test tube 1 and heated in the presence or absence of the oxidation catalyst in a heating bath at 95 deg.C. A condenser 4 is set on the test tube 1 and oxygen is continuously made to flow into the oils in the test tube 1 for 24hr at 3l/h flow rate to perform oxidation treatment. Thereby, the objective fuel oil improved in cetane number is produced at a low cost. Furthermore, a straight-run light oil fraction or its hydrogenated fraction, a cracked light oil fraction or its hydrogenated fraction, a heavy light oil fraction or its hydrogenated fraction, etc., can be used as the mixed base material oil. |
