CONTROL SUBSYSTEM IN AN IMAGE OUTPUT TERMINAL

An image output terminal in a printer includes a control board providing an interface between an electronic subsystem of the printer and a printing unit of the image output terminal. An image disk can be provided in the image output terminal for receipt of image data from the electronic subsystem prior to submission to the printing unit. The control board further provides an interface between the electronic subsystem and the image disk and between the image disk and the printing unit such that communication is decoupled between the electronic subsystem and the printing unit as data is printed while the transfer of data from the electronic subsystem to the image disk is allowed during printing. The control board controls all communication between the electronic subsystem and the printing unit. The control board is able to detect fault conditions in the electronic subsystem, printing unit and control board itself.
