SUSPENSION POLYMERIZATION OF VINYL CHLORIDE

An improvement is proposed in the method for the suspension polymerization of vinyl chloride, according to which the polyvinyl chloride resin prepared by the reaction is advantageous in respect of the low initial coloration of the shaped articles therefrom even when the polymerization reaction is conducted in the presence of a monomer-soluble polymerization initiator in an amount increased with an object to accelerate the polymerization reaction for improved productivity. The improvement can be achieved by introducing a chain transfer agent such as 2-mercap-toethyl alcohol and n-hexane in an amount of 0.001 to 0.2% by weight of the monomer into the polymerization mixture at a moment when conversion of the monomer into polymer is in the range from 60% to 75%.
