Anti-theft device for identifying and indelibly marking a surface, and more particularly the casings of office, computer and electronic equipment. It consists of a nut and a bolt assembly (5) fixed on either side of the surface (4) of the appliances to be identified. This fixing is made final and tamper-proof by an anaerobic product (6). Upon fixing, the screw is held by a specially manufactured tool containing two spikes which are inserted into two small holes (3). The head of the screw, which is wide and rounded, contains information such as the logo or the name of the owner (1) as well as a unique serial number per appliance (2). This information is etched into the material of the nut with the aid of a laser. This device is intended essentially to discourage theft of equipment, to block the use of this equipment either individually or its resale on the second-hand equipment market. <IMAGE>
