Use of new compositions based on gels for the reduction of the production of water in oil or gas production wells

Use of new gel compositions usable for reducing water production in wells producing oil or gas. The gel compositions include a solution of at least one water-soluble complex of a polyvalent metal cation such as zirconium lactate, capable of crosslinking a nonionic polysaccharide such as scleroglucan, in a concentration of 2 to 100 parts per million parts, expressed as weight of metal dioxide. The compositions make it possible to form aqueous scleroglucan gels which can be employed for preventing entries of water into hydrocarbon production wells.
