PURPOSE:To accurately detect the degree of awakening of a driver by detecting the travel mode of a vehicle together with the operation state of an operation member and inferring the degree of awakening of the driver by using those operation state and travel mode as input data. CONSTITUTION:An operation state recognition device 2 inputs sensor detection data from a steering angle sensor, an accelerator opening extent sensor, etc., provided to the operation members of the vehicle such as the steering wheel and accelerator. The operation state recognition device 2 detects the manipulated variable, frequency of operation, etc., of their rotations by using specific numeric arithmetic, fuzzy inference, etc., and outputs operation state data X1 to the awakening degree inference device 4. A travel state recognition device 3 estimates the travel mode of the vehicle by fuzzy inference according to the detection data from an engine rotating speed sensor, a vehicle speed sensor, an acceleration sensor, etc., provided to the vehicle and outputs it as travel state data X2 to the awakening degree inference device 4. The awakening degree inference device 4 consists of a knowledge base and a fuzzy inference part and outputs the degree D of awakening. |
