PURPOSE:To obtain a positioning controller for a magnetic head in which high speed, stable excitation can be realized regardless of the type of the excitation system. CONSTITUTION:The positioning controller comprises tables 1, 26 for storing common relationship between the track width and the phase lead amount, a track position detecting means, a drive amount switching means 2 for determining the phase lead amount from track signals with reference to the tables, and a drive amount logic means 25 for selecting an optimal set from a plurality of exciting pulses based on a command and producing a drive control signal. Furthermore, means for performing excitation at a set speed in a part of decelerating region, means for performing PWM modulation, and a table 3 for storing the relationship between the speed and the phase lead amount are also provided. |
