<p>PURPOSE:To provide the non-volatile recorder of the entirely new type for which a liquid crystal compd. or a compd. contg. a liquid crystal component in the molecule is used as a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A glass substrate 52 formed with a counter electrode 51 on the opposite surface is stuck to a silicon substrate 55 and a liquid crystal 53 consisting of a high-polymer nematic liquid crystal is packed between the two substrates 55 and 52, by which a recording part 34 and a memory cell 43 disposed in a matrix form in this recording part 34 are constituted. Writing of information to the recording part 34 is executed by impressing a voltage for heating to a heating element 44 to heat the liquid crystal 53. A polydomain structure is formed and the writing state of the information is attained if the supply of the voltage for heating is stopped and the liquid crystal 53 is rapidly cooled after the heating. On the other hand, reading is executed by impressing a voltage for writing the information between an upper electrode 41 and the counter electrode 51 and measuring the electric capacity of the liquid crystal 53. More specifically, the dielectric constant of the liquid crystal 53 varies in the polydomain structure and the monodomain structure and, therefore, the difference in electric capacity is measured.</p> |
