摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain the visual angle compensation plate for a liquid crystal display for which a liquid crystalline polyester film immobilized in orientation is used by constituting this plate of the film consisting of the specific liquid crystalline polyester which is made in larger in the refractive index 10 a thickness direction than the refractive index in at least one direction within the plane in a liquid crystal state. CONSTITUTION:This visual angle compensation plate for the liquid crystal display element is constituted of a light transparent substrate and the film consisting of the liquid crystalline polyester which is formed on this substrate, has the structure larger in the refractive index in at least one direction than in the refractive index in at least one direction within the plane in the liquid crystal state and consists of the structural unit expressed by formulas I, II attaining a glass state at the temp. below the liquid crystal transition point and formula III at need. In the formula II, Y denotes a bivalent aliphat. group contg. at least one asymmetric carbon atoms and having 3 to 12C. In the formula III, Z denotes a straight chain or branched bivalent aliphat. group having 2 to 18 C and an even number of the carbon atoms of the part constituting the main chain of the polymer.
