An installation comprising a head station (14) connected to a wired network (16, 20, 24) feeding connecting sockets (26) for digital communications terminals (36). Each terminal (36) includes a digital modem (40) working at a demodulation frequency Fd and at a modulation frequency Fe. An apparatus (30) transposes the signals from the frequency Fe to the frequency Fd so as to establish a digital data bridge between a return channel and a down channel. The appliance (30) comprises a signal input at the frequency Fe and a signal output at the frequency Fd, a digital modem (40) working at a demodulation frequency Fd in order to supply the base band digital data transported by an input signal, the frequency Fe of which is translated to Fd, a digital data processing unit. The processed base band digital data are modulated at the frequency Fe. The modulated signals are injected onto the down channel of the network after frequency translation to the frequency Fd. The installation allows communication of digital data in a hotel over a coaxial network for distribution of audiovisual programmes, for television for example. <IMAGE>
