High temp. battery protector - connects poles of similar polarity to prevent undesired current flows across cells in parallel due to temp. differences

The protection unit is for high temp. batteries having a series of individual cells, each with a number of poles of the same polarity. A switching unit for connecting the poles of the same polarity contains a switching element (5) having switching pieces (1',2' to n') connected conductively to each other and corresp. in number to the poles (1,2 to n) of the same polarity of the batteries or cells. The switching pieces are spaced along a line (8) and in the switched-on position, are engaged by the poles (1,2..n) arranged spaced along a similar line (9). The switching pieces and the poles are separated by an airgap in the switched off position. ADVANTAGE - Prevents undesired current flows across parallel lying cells or batteries with too strongly deviating conducting current characteristics, leading to disintegration of individual cells, esp. when heating and cooling is not evenly distributed as when starting up or stopping an electric, battery-powered vehicle.
