Described is a pressure-operated coal-gasification unit (1) which is linked to a power-generation facility (5) and which is continuously supplied with a suspension of coal. The coal suspension contains, in addition to the coal powder used as the fuel, a calorific liquid. A pump (14) is used to bring the suspension to a suitable pressure for feeding into the gasification unit (1). The suspension is preferably prepared using petroleum oil, mineral oil and/or distillation products of these oils. The efficiency of this method is comparable with that of batch feeding, but requires less complex equipment and is more reliable.
