Decorative faced sprue-free moulding - produced by placing embossed film across mould, closing it, injecting thermoplastic shot behind film and oscillating to break off sprue

A decorative plastic article is produced with an embossed film. The embossed film is placed between two mould tools which are then brought together to form the mould cavity and to grip the film between them. A shot of plastic material is injected into the cavity through at least one runner in one of the tools. This shot is allowed to harden to a correspondingly decorative prod., after which the mould is opened and the prod. is ejected. Before the moulding has set hard, however, the sprue formed is broken off. ADVANTAGE - The procedure eliminates the formation of flash or of rejects when the sprue is broken off
