The support-column for chairs or tables is adjustable in length and consists of a tubular upright (1) with a centre lengthwise axis (3) concentric with which is a pneumatic or hydropneumatic length-adjustment control. The control housing (4) is radially supported in the upright and is movable towards the axle (3). The piston-rod (7) near its free end, is fixed to a baseplate (9) and swivels on an axial roller bearing unit (8). A top and bottom bearing-disc has between them a ball bearing cage with balls. The axial roller bearing (8) is held together by a shrinkage tube section (27) at least on the outer periphery of the bearing discs. USE/ADVANTAGE - The axial bearing for the table or chair column is economically and easily produced.
