The mattress has a cover divided into chambers containing a filling material (3) in the form of pellets or granules (3). The cover is pref. divided into longitudinal chambers (2a) which in cross section have a maximum width of about 20 to 30 cm and a maximum depth of about 3 to 10 cm. The filled cover (2) can be used as a core inserted in a linen outer cover (5) which is pref. quilted.
