The appts. for testing the wiping edge (Aa) of a cleaning device (A) uses a test block (10) with a smooth surface (10a) which is pressed against the wiping edge and a light projector (20) and receiver (30) arranged with the contact position between them. A mechanism causes relative motion between the projector and receiver on one hand and the wiper on the other in the direction of the wiping edge. The intensity of the light received is indicated and measured. USE/ADVANTAGE - For testing wiping edge of cleaning wiper such as windscreen wiper or copying machine developer drum cleaner. High accuracy is achieved for practical purposes.
