METHOD AND DEVICE FOR MASS TRANSFER

A method for carrying out mass transfer processes in exchanging phase systems, liquid-liquid and liquid-gas, which provides for directing a flow of a non-wetting liquid between two membranes, and the a flow of a gas or of a wetting liquid is passed through these membranes between which is placed a porous polymer material with the size of the pores equal to 0.03-1.00 mu m which has a system of channels of arbitrary shape and which is non-wetted by the same phase which is non-wetting in relation to the membranes. The maximum pressure in the mass transferring space is maintained at such a level so that the difference between its value and the value of the pressure of the other phase does not exceed the capillary pressure existing inside the pores of the membranes and inside the material filling the space between the membranes. A device for implementing the method comprises a mass transfer chamber consisting of two porous membranes which are made of a polymer material non-wetted by one of the exchanging phases and between which is placed a layer of a porous polymer material with a system of channels of arbitrary shape which is non-wetted by the same phase which is non-wetting in relation to the membranes. The membranes forming the mass transfer chamber and the layer filling the space between them may be made of one and the same porous hydrophobic material as a one-piece part.
